The band are pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Kelloway as their new Musical Director.
January 2023.

Brian started his playing career at the age of eleven enjoying many
successful years as a player.
He has taken part in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain nine times; four times as a player and five times as a Musical Director.
He is looking to be part of friendly Brass Band that wish to work together as a Team to achieve musical success.

MUSICAL DIRECTOR EXPERIENCE
2015 – CURRENT DAY
KINGSBURY EPISOPI CONCERT BAND
• We perform regular concerts at local venues Parks and Sea sides. We rehearse once a week on a Thursday.
I have arranged numerous pieces of music for both Brass and Concert Bands. In 2019 I directed and edited Kingsbury band’s 2019 CD containing 14 tracks of eclectic and entertaining concert band music.
2018-2019
YEOVIL CONCERT BAND
• Yeovil Concert Band consisted of talented retired players. We rehearsed on a Monday morning allowing me to continue my duties at KEB.
I directed the band at several concerts in the Yeovil area to a high standard of musicianship.
2018 (6 Weeks)
SHREWTON SILVER BAND
• I was asked by Michael Dunford to conduct the band at Bugle Contest in June 2018.
We won the march trophy.
2007-2009
WINCANTON SILVER BAND
• I returned to Wincanton band in 2007 (after a short break from the brass band world) and successfully qualified the band for a third time at the National Championships of Great
Britain in 2008

2000-2003
MICHELMERSH SILVER BAND
• December 2001 together we achieved 1st Prize WBBA (second section) with Les Prelude.
• 2002 saw promotion and 1st Prize in the WBBA (first section) with Purcell Variations giving
the further promotion to WBBA Championship Section. April 2002 saw MSB take 1st prize (3rd Section)
under my baton in the WEBBA Championships along with an invitation to the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain,
• A feat that was repeated in 2003 gaining the band promotion to the Second Section
nationally along with an invitation to the National Championships of Great Britain that year.
• We also made a CD which I directed and edited along with the Production Engineer to ensure a polished performance ready for sale distribution.

1997-1999
WINCANTON SILVER BAND
• Wincanton band qualified twice for the national championships under my baton. This was in the 4th Section in 1998.  In 1999, we qualified for the national finals in the 3rd section.
• We also made a CD which I directed and edited along with the Production Engineer to ensure a polished performance ready for sale distribution.
1995-1997
LYMPSTONE SILVER BAND
• My first senior appointment as a Musical Director. Contest success under my baton
secured the band’s first contest success for seventeen years, coming 1st place in the 4th section.
More contest and concert successes followed.
1990-1995
STOKE SUB HAMDON YOUTH BAND
• I was appointed assistant MD at Stoke Sub Hamdon Band where I formed and trained the
Youth Band. I directed the Youth Band to Brass Band competitions at
Lychett Minster and Clovelly. Gaining 1st prizes at both.
• This was followed by a competition in Plymouth (SWBBA) however as we were the only
youth band entered, we were asked to play in the fourth section. Resulting in 3rd place
out of 19 senior bands. Winning £150 for the main band’s funds. The average age of the
Youth Band was 14 years. Many of those players still play to the benefit of local bands.

PLAYER EXPERIENCE
I have played every instrument within the brass band forum except the Trombone
Soprano cornet and Percussion. Most of my playing career was on the Cornet,
Flugelhorn, Euphonium and Eb Bass. I have played for various Brass Bands in the area including.
• Sherborne Town Band (Championship Section)
• St Austell Band (Championship Section),
• Phoenix (Crewkerne) Band (Second Section)
• Yeovil Town Band (3rd Section National Champion of Great Britain 1996).
• Stoke-Sub-Hamdon Band. This was my maiden band where I played for 32 years
from the age of 11. I played at the Royal Albert Hall in 1983 when all National
Final Sections were held there.

MUSICAL EDUCATION
I have studied conducting and arranging under
• Goff Richards
• Richard Evans
• Derek Broadbent
• And most recently Philip Harper.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS
• I support and encourage all players of all abilities to achieve their potential
• Full commitment and dedication assured.
• Exceptional listening skills and personnel management
• Experience at Band Committee level as Chair,
Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Librarian.
I assisted in the formation of the constitution of Stoke Sub Hamdon Band
• Arranging Music for Brass and Concert bands
• Play Bass Guitar & Piano in my spare time
• Proven respected track record as an experienced MD for Contests, Concerts and
Band Rehearsals.

OTHER EXPERIENCE
In 1990 I was elected to the Southwest Brass Band Association, a position I held for five years, two of which I was the Secretary and the SWBBA representative to the National Federation of Brass Bands.
